TGIF

13 Aug

Baby got back…. and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I graded out 2 sizes from waist to hip and it’s resulted in quite a swingy skirt for a trench coat. Now, it’s not lined – heck, it’s not even pressed so it should smooth out a bit (fingers crossed).

Here’s the front so far, too.

This weekends list:

  • Finish this trench madness
  • Attempt to conquer the mountains of laundry in my bedroom (note to self: sewing more and more clothes is not a valid alternative to doing laundry).
  • My poppa (mum’s dad) has put in a request for some trackpants. Foolishly, I said they were heaps cheaper to buy at a store not realising he just wanted something made by me, so these automatically go to the top of the list. I’m thinking of using New Look 6142 which has men’s and women’s options.

The weather is heinous tonight and supposed to be that way all weekend, so it’s a great excuse to get things done.

One thing I totally believe is to “press as you sew”. After stitching seams, press over the stitches as is, then open the seam and press from the wrong side. Not only does it give you an idea of how the completed garment will look, you don’t have to iron the whole thing at the end. In this case, it will also tell you if your stitch tension is too tight and causing your seams to pucker, which is what it looks like now (but may not be the truth once you iron it) Good luck!

Arrgh… the tension! Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks chick! 🙂
