Unfortunately, I have a lot going on off-line this week and I’m feeling pretty swamped. In fact I haven’t gotten any actual sewing done in almost two weeks.
There are things in the works I promise however to fill the gap here’s one I prepared earlier.
Butterick 4919 (Sale price now on the butterick website US$2.28!) is a pretty re-issued retro pattern with a circle skirt, v-neck front and ties that wrap around the front and tie in back.
I made it for the same event as the mermaid dress but the previous year, from a synthetic fabric I found for $10 / metre. Cheap was important here as, holy cow, this uses a good 6 metres (6 3/8 yards) of fabric. The material is black with a silver sheen and here’s what was great – a soft cotton feel on the back.
The full circle skirt was awesome for twirling.
It’s cut in four pieces but still requires 150cm (60″) wide fabric to fit it all in.
I love this pattern, but at the time I made it I hadn’t even heard of a full bust adjustment. I just didn’t know that it was even possible so what you see here is me cramming my G-cup boobies into a B-cup pattern and unfortunately this led to all that gaping at the side. The neckline did it too but I sort of tucked it in and slip stitched it in place.
Oh the lessons we learn.
Finally, here’s some pics in action:
(Yes, I was having a blonde stage!)
Oooh, that´s a nice twirl! I love it when I´m able to wear dresses like that, unfortunately it is much too few occasions… Love the pattern.
I learned the FBA lessen just this week, so you are way ahead by my standards:-)
Thanks so much for the review! Looking at making this (or my mum is!) for my wedding in the shorter length so really useful to read reviews like this.
What a beautiful dress! You look stunning in it!
